That's the message you've been hearing for some time now as Saturday's vote to renew a 10-year, 5.45-mil parishwide property tax approaches.
Truer words haver never been spoken. Once abandoned, Chennault now employs 14-hundred people with an annual payroll of over 62-million dollars. Apply the 7-times multiple and that means Chennault's impact on our parish's economy approaches nearly half a billion dollars a year and has the potential to grow far beyond that.
Here are some facts you may not know. Everything built at Chennault remains the property of each of us, the taxpaying public. It is not handed over to the companies which are its tenants. Revenue from the millage doesn't just go to maintain existing assets. It's bonded out to leverage even more investment in new job-creating projects. And, Chennault's impact is felt well beyond its perimeter. The airport contributes enough funding to both Southland Field and DeQuincy Airpark to pay for most of those West Calcasieu airports' annual operating budgets.
Saturday's vote is not for a new tax nor a tax increase. It's just to maintain the existing revenue stream which has produced thousands of quality jobs for our area.
If you live in Calcasieu Parish, we strongly encourage you to take the time to vote "yes" for Chennault this Saturday. Chennault means jobs. It is among the most worthy investments of our tax dollars and deserves our full support over the next decade and beyond.
