Last Thursday, 8 year old, T.S. Cooley Elementary student Mathius Russell collapsed at school. Unfortunately, he passed away later that day.
Mr. Fred Rogers once stated: “When I was a boy, and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of 'disaster,'...I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers—so many caring people in this world.”
I am thankful for the TS Cooley and Lake Charles Memorial personnel who gave Mathius care. I am thankful for the school teachers who watched over students who may have been frightened for their schoolmate.
There is something our community can also do to help. An account has been set up on Fondel Funeral Home's website to cover funeral expenses.
To Mathius' family, and the T.S. Cooley community, our prayers are with you in this difficult time. In times of extreme grief, we can find comfort in the fact that there are still so many helpers and those who care in our better Southwest Louisiana.
