Ground Zero Mosque

   By now most of you have heard how President Obama has gotten involved in the debate over a proposed mosque near Ground Zero.  And the political groups are lining up on both sides... either supporting or strongly disagreeing with what he had to say.  It was at a White House observance of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, where President Obama said "Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country."  He added "that includes the right to build a place of worship" in lower Manhattan.  The President's reasoning is that to do anything less than support the Muslims' right to build this Mosque would be undermining the principles this country was founded upon.  The President says a nation built on religious freedom... must allow it.  New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is applauding President Obama for supporting the right of developers to build the mosque near ground zero.   But Republican Congressman Peter King of New York feels the President is wrong, calling it "insensitive and uncaring."  King says it will needlessly offend many people who have suffered.  What is your reaction to the proposed mosque at ground zero and the President's statements?

- 70 percent of youths in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes — 9 times the average. (U.S. Department of Justice)

- 85 percent of all youths in prison come from fatherless homes — 20 times the average. (Texas Department of Correction)

Here’s some stats around boys and men in general:

- For every 100 females ages 15-19 who commit suicide, 549 males in the same range kill themselves.

- For every 100 females ages 20-24 who commit suicide, 624 males in the same range kill themselves.

- For every 100 girls ages 15-17 in correctional facilities, there are 837 boys behind bars.

- For every 100 women ages 18-21 in correctional facilities, there are 1,430 men behind bars.

- For every 100 women ages 22-24 in correctional facilities, there are 1,448 men in correctional facilities.

- For every 100 women ages 18-24 years living in-group homes there are 166 men of the same age living in-group homes.

- 65-75% of those with learning disabilities are boys

- Boys are twice as likely to be placed in special education classed

- High-school boys are losing ground to girls on standardized writing tests.

- The number of boys who said they didn't like school rose 71 percent between 1980 and 2001, according to a University of Michigan study.

- On the college campus, Thirty years ago men represented 58 percent of the undergraduate student body. Now they're a minority at 44 percent. This widening achievement gap, says Margaret Spellings, U.S. secretary of Education, "has profound implications for the economy, society, families and democracy."

- Boys receive up to 70% of the Ds and Fs given all students, andthey create 90% classroom discipline problems

- 80% all high school dropouts are boys,

- As of 2004, there were 5 million boys on Ritalin and other mind-bending control drugs.

- Compound these overall “boy” issues with race and poverty issues, and you get boys with guns and little to hope for roaming our streets.

- Unprecedented violence
- epidemic fatherlessness, lack of role models.
- Incredibly negative peer level cultural influence.
- Widening academic achievement gaps

I have one Question.
A large percentage of Americans do not want this built where it is planned...sacred ground

If the President said:
"Jews have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country", it would still be no big deal.
But he said:
"Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country." Now it's a big deal.
This is America folks. The land of inclusion, opportunity, and community. Those who oppose this facility are being hypocrites. Would you oppose a catholic or baptist church at this location?
