Today leaders from seven Louisiana parishes will travel to Washington, D.C. to ask for forgiveness from FEMA disaster loans. Cameron, St. Tammany, Jefferson, Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, and Washington Parishes will all send representatives to meet with FEMA administrator Craig Fugate. At issue... Whether FEMA will force the parishes to pay back money borrowed after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. If FEMA says no, the leaders say they'll have to request extensions to pay back the loans over time. Should FEMA forgive the parishes of those loans?
A loan is a loan. If you borrow money, why do you think you get to keep it?

Just my 2 cents worth...The IRS does not grant me forgiveness on my taxes, nor does my mortgage company or car company grant me forgiveness on my loans, so what makes these parishes so damn special? They borrowed the money knowing it would have to be paid back, so pay it back and stop your sniveling, step up to the plate and pay your debts.

I disagree, the government gets plenty of my money in taxes, so they can afford to forgive these loans. Heck Michelle can take expensive trips so they can forget these loans. I wish I could take those kind of trips but who would man the farm Barrack????? He has never worked a day in his life....

Absolutely not. Loans are LOANS. The country has been in terrible financial shape for the past few years. The last thing the federal government needs to do is forgive loans made to parishes, or anyone. A loan is a loan, no matter who you are. The parishes should be ashamed for even asking for loan forgiveness.

Pay it back. If this is the response the parishes have to a loan repayment, I'd think twice before lending them any more. They may have cut their own throats the next time an emergency comes along and they need financial help.

I wonder what the reaction would be if the people of these parishes asked for forgiveness for their property taxes so that they would have more money to recover.
Yeah right....like that would ever be given consideration. just like no consideration should be given to the parishes.

kinda funny KPLC keeps showing footage of local officials crying about the new taxes, but yet haven't had any footage of someone representing those that don't want it.

Hey HaHa - Maybe that's because it was already covered in the A.P. Maybe it's because opponents were unwilling to speak on camera. Maybe because on-camera opponents were unable to put together a statement. Maybe it's because everyone favors the tax proposition. Maybe it's because no local teapartiers were 'camera ready.' Maybe its because everyone is against the round 2 tax proposals, and KPLC, like FoxNews, want to offer balanced news coverage. There's plenty of responses to your off-topic question.
