With the current unrest in the Middle East, oil prices are skyrocketing. And we're seeing it at the pump here in the Lake Area. Triple A reports a gallon of regular unleaded in the Lake Area is now at three dollars a gallon. With so much dependence on MIddle Eastern oil, should we be doing more drilling in the Gulf of Mexico right now?
Whether it's turtles you like or not, it'll always be Bush's fault.....

Yes we should; putting AMERICANS back to work and decreasing the unemployment rate in the U S. The United States has proven time and time again that we can produce a quality product cheaper and still pay our workers good pay and benefits.
Hey, DA GARDNER FOR MAYOR: You can put your brothels on a platform in the Gulf. You know you would get a lot of support off shore.

"should we be doing more drilling in the Gulf of Mexico right now?"
How about that for a "DUH" moment. The same people that cry and complain about drilling off the east coast and west coast are also crying about the gas prices. Then you got the biggest communist in the US serving as our President who will continue to stiffle drilling to push his futile "green" farce down our throats. Get back to work drilling and we wouldn't be seeing this problem.

I like turtles; I like shooting them for target practice.

Drilling off shore, as well as those areas owned by the government that are known rich fields, all on hold by the most ridiculous reasons our president could think up is causing a crisis in America that could be significantly lessened by allowing the USA to drill for our own oil from these sources. Why can't our more reasonable legislators eliminate those short sited czars and convince the Dem legislators to stop holding up these jobs for America? We must be allowed to bring oil from these proven sites to relieve the crisis NOW. We CAN'T depend on Libia or other Egypt to save our behinds.

Where do I start.
1. Relax the EPA regulations prices would drop.
2. If we started drilling off shore when Obama was elected we would not be in this position of foreign oil dependency.
3. Convert more vehicles to natural gas.
4. Drill in Purdue Bay Alaska, the game reserve or us, I say us....
5. Local gad stations do not help, I got gas Tuesday 500 pm at tobacco plus on nelson, 500 pm Wednesday it was 13 cents higher, you can not tell me the manufacture or distributor suffered that increase that fast...It was pure greed on the owners part to take advantage of the situation. I am NOT picking on just this station all local stations are guilty. Why is gas cheaper in Iowa the LC when it cost more to deliver it there????
6. Joe-I love the idea, there would defiantly be an increase in off shore "drilling"

Everyday The ships comming up the ship cannel are full of foreign oil - but they
leave full of money.
This is why our economy suffers - no one wants to face this fact. Over 63% of the oil
we consume comes from overseas.
We have the oil we need here - we need to convert all vehicals to nateral gas ( the cleanest fuel you can burn, and we have an abundance of) and save our oil for plastics, medicines, lubricants, etc.
If we don't start drilling now we will have exchanged all our country's wealth for oil.
Every day we use foreign oil we get further into debt.
Our contry

I say use all there oil first. Saving our oil is a good investment. Pay or get a bike. Car pool if it hurts to much. Saving our oil allows us to stay strong the longest.

Oh, no! Those nasty offshore rigs, they kill turtles and dolphins and fishes.
We need high-speed rail between Houston and L'Auberge and more buses downtown, especially those cute ones that look kinda like streetcars.
And people need to walk more, so like, if gas goes high enough, people will stop driving and start walking to Wal-Mart.
And if the post office cuts mail delivery to one day a week, they'll save money and still be able to give us all our gummint checks.
(NOTE: This is sarcasm. If you're not sure, ask to have it explained to you.)

I agree with more drilling, but keep in mind, OPEC will just cut the supply back if we produce more, raising the price even more. We get most of our oil from Canada, not the middle east, but yet OPEC controls the supply and therefore the price. The announced the target of $100/barrel oil several months ago. This "unrest" in the middle east allowed that to happen without them having to modify the supply. We have to buy their oil, so that they will buy our bonds, because we as a country spend money that we really don't have. Sort of like some neighbors you know well that drive a nice car, are in several Mardi Gras krewes, and yet they don't have a dime to their name!

Elohssa sarcasm- Has no effect on this blog trust me.
Ken-If we supply OUR own oil we can tell OPEC to get lost, so their prices wont affect us.
Egg Shell- We wont be a country if we keep buying foreign oil so having lots of it will do us no good if we are all wearing towels on our heads.

"Ken-If we supply OUR own oil we can tell OPEC to get lost, so their prices wont affect us."
You couldn't be more wrong about that!

well Bill tell us the skinny.

We should have never STOPPED drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Obozo forced the moratorium down our throats so we have him to thank for part of this mess. Unfortunately, the U.S. is tied into the Global Market and lots of our oil is sold to other countries while we continue to import it from a variety of sources...not just the Middle East. It's all under contracts so we can't just stop exporting or importing it. Personally, I'd love to see us drill and produce more of our own oil and gas and quit shipping our stuff out of the country but it's just not that easy. We ARE part of a global economy.
Posted by: Mike | February 23, 2011 at 10:57 AM
One blames the Bush's and the rest Obozo or Obama. How little information these people have, and comment.
You need to go back and thank Lyndon Baines Johnson and his Democratic Controlled Government. We are now reaping the benefits of their greed and policies.

Time to go to the Streets and overthrow the Yankees - Eliminate OSHA - EPA - Energy Dept- Dip all the tree huggers in tar then feathers - Lets be Big Bad USA again - cut off ALL Foreign Aid , especially Food , tell the Raggies either cough up the oil at a reasonable price or we'll take it by force - Americas Oil for America's Own - while we're at it , go down and squash UGO Chavez Obama , take Venezuela back as the 51st state. I can't wait to start polluting again w/o a catalytic converter and good ole LEADED gas , this time we can make sure the little Brooklyn kids eat real lead.

Yeh, we could also start putting out high compression engines like the late 60's. Bring back the Charger R/T 440 Mag or Hemi, 302 Boss Mustang, 442 Olds Cutless; the lead burning, air polluting, tire burning vehicles of the time.
That was the days of the power houses.
Posted by: Mardi Gras | February 23, 2011 at 11:56 AM
I dont think we should drill offshore...nor on shore...we should shut down the coalmines that pollute our air and all the plants...and then we should revert to an agricultural economy similar to the Amishes of Pennsylvania...
It may make an happier society.....
Was I dreaming ? ooops .....

Mike-Thanks for the reminder, sometimes I get a little narrow minded and forget we actually have to deal with the other countries of the world.
Still would like to know why gas rose .13 cents in 24 hours in local market when the petroleum used was purchased before this latest crisis.
Can we convert the 302 Boss Mustang to Natural Gas?????
Rebel when i get elected Mayor, I want to have you as my tax collector, how about it?????

Of course we should....BUT this man may not like it, since he heads the drilling company BP, and the trading company Goldman-Sachs...a vertical control... a monopoly:
Peter Sutherland is chairman of BP plc (1997 - current). He is also chairman of Goldman Sachs International (1995 - current).
He is currently UN special representative for migration and development. Before these appointments, he was the founding director-general of the World Trade Organisation. He had previously served as director general of GATT since July 1993 and was instrumental in concluding the Uruguay GATT Round Negotiations. Prior to this position, he was chairman of Allied Irish Banks from 1989-1993 and chairman of the Board of Governors of the European Institute of Public Administration (Maastricht) 1991-1996.
From 1981 until early 1982, he was attorney general of Ireland and was a member of the Council of State. He was reappointed in 1982 until 1984 when he was nominated by the Government of Ireland as a member of the Commission of the European Communities in charge of competition policy. During his first year at the Commission he was also responsible for social Affairs, health and education and thereafter for relations with the European Parliament.
He serves on the Board of Directors of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc and is associated with the following organisations: World Economic Forum (Davos), Foundation Board member; The Federal Trust, president; European Policy Centre Advisory Council, president; European Round Table of Industrialists, vice-chairman; the Royal Irish Academy, member; goodwill ambassador to the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation; and consultor for the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See. I can see it now, that guy that always posts on here preaching about how fuel costs has so much TAX on it ( I think approx .45 cents) So when fuel is around 2.50, it would be 2.05 without tax. When gas is $4, it would be 3.55 WHOOOPIEEE what-a-bargain. Oh wait, when gas is $5 that darn tax meant that gas could be 4.55! bad, bad, bad taxes. Somebody pave the roads for FREE please....
Posted by: goodygumdrops | February 23, 2011 at 01:37 PM
Gumdrops--
Before you finish your little spiel, you need to compare the amount of the tax to the amount of profit those evil oil companies make off each gallon, of the poor schmuck running the gas station.
The gallon price is a pie with many pieces, but the government gets the biggest...
Posted by: etaoin.shrdlu | February 23, 2011 at 01:56 PM
Can someone please tell me why the price of gas increased .13 cents in a 24 hour period?? the gas in those tanks was the same as 24 hours prior. So I do not feel sorry for anyone but US.
Posted by: DA GARDNER FOR MAYOR | February 23, 2011 at 02:28 PM
Now is the time to explore not only off-shore but on-shore drilling. We have plenty of resources right here in the USA that can be tapped to make us self sufficient. It seems as though we always look at this question when the atmosphere is turbulent in the middle east. If we stop looking and start doing, we will be less damaged economically by conflicts.
