At Wednesday night's Lake Charles City Council meeting, despite opposition, the Cypress Group got an extension on their upcoming April 3rd deadline for their proposed lakeside development. The extension gives Cypress an additional three months to secure their application for HUD funding. But not everyone agrees with the project. Councilmen Stuart Weatherford and Dana Carl Jackson voted not to give an extension. How do you feel about giving Cypress more time to apply for funding?
Enough is enough. Cypress group has had enough time. They have demonstrated their weak financial position and inability to manage a project, we will see continued delays through construction. Do we really need a HUD project on the waterfront? I agree with Jackson, just not the best use for generating sales tax revenue.

Yes we want Families to spend time here. Look across the street a tell me what you see.I'm not opposed to the project but. The area as a whole should be inviting to Families.

Who cares, this is the least important project in Lake Charles. No one cares what the City does anymore, they don't listen to the people that live here anyway. Do what you want and quit playing politics with us. People are losing health care and jobs and this is what the city is worried about, pretty pathetic but that has always been this way in Lake Charles.
So old stuff. That's why this city is not and never will grow.

Something smells fishy about the deal...
The city wants to figure out the best way to spend our money on another boondoggle while maximizing the graft they receive in return for poor government.
Give 'em room. Thank goodness I can shop on line. I hate to think of putting another dime in the hands of Lake Charles city government.

I agree with Brian. The Cypress Group has shown us that their financial situation is shakey at best. With that information, the city should not even be considering doing business with then. I was opposed to this project when it was first proposed and I've seen nothing that would change my mind. If the city continues along this line, I think we'll continue to have delays and problems and I doubt that the project will ever be completed as proposed. Lake Charles will be the loser and the Cypress Group will slither out of town with their pockets bulging with money. Why is it that everyone except our city management can see this coming from a mile away?

What on earth do we need HUD for to build something on the lakefront? Is someone trying to add more government subsidized high crime housing to the city?
Can you give me directions to such housing projects in any NICE cities?

Bord du Lac Marina attracting several visitors...HAHAHAHA WHAT A JOKE, and how many have been here since the city built it?
As for the topic.. lake upchuck will do what they want. they DON'T GIVE A FLYING RATS butt what the residents want.
We were at the local store, right next door to waffle house, and a bunch of people driving to Texas actually laughed at Lake UpChuck. The owner of the store said " ahhh, you going to gamble ", they laughed and said hell no,,we are going to vacation in Texas. The couple said nothing to do here but gamble, nothing for kids, and can you imagine, they said it stunk when they went to the boardwalk. I told them they were thinking of putting sec 8 housing right in that spot and pointed across the street. They just laughed..I mean, what else are you going to do? Move here
We laughed and agreed

Everybody is right....I've been told that the City people laugh their heads off when they read the forums...they say its just venting off...and that in the end they'll do whatever they want...sounds to me like the Middle East dictators!!!!

Where did this Section 8 housing thing come from? Cypress applied for FHA insured financing which expedites the loan process with lenders. Maybe you guys should take the time to inform yourselves. Go ahead, read about it http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/mfh/progdesc/renturbanhsg220.cfm

Hey Informed..If you look to the left on the page provided the link for you will see under the multi family stuff all of the section 8 stuff.. You do not get a hud loan or a guarantee unless you do something for the poor, some of these homes will be section 8 it is the law.. so do some more homework.

In ten years or less they will be tearing out the new downtown street renovation and opening up the lanes again. Same old story and same old folks running this Podunk town. Want something nice to do and do it with family in mind go to Texas. This town is dead. Lake Charles is one trashy town.

The marina at the civic center is a joke, it's a place to dock your boat and that's all. A real marina has a place for fuel and a place for ice and food. What a huge waste of our money once again. All I can see is how money is being wasted in Lake Charles and not spent wisely, when the economy is the way it is now and will be for many years. The days of how things were are gone for good. Quit wasting out money on unnecessary things. Including the DOWNTOWN AREA.

I agree with Andre. Why the city didn't decide to set up a full service marina with fuel and pump-out stations and it would have been a destination for boaters, who, unlike gamblers, are looking for a place to visit. Somebody could've benefited from fuel sales and other services, but nooooo! We'd reather spend our money on redoing Ryan Street because somebody found the plans from that last time this was a bright idea thirty years ago.

The marina is nicer than almost all transient marinas in louisiana, its nicer than the ones in new orleans, also... Dag what do the other menu items have to do with what Informed said? That section of the program has nothing to do with the other.
