The battle lines are being drawn over the new congressional district lines. A special session of the legislature will hit the ground on Monday, when lawmakers take on the issue of re-districting. The first official drafts of the redrawn Louisiana congressional districts were unveiled Thursday in a House committee in Baton Rouge. For the first time, Louisiana will lose one congressional seat because of the new census results. Instead of seven, we'll have six members of the congressional delegation. House and Governmental Affairs Chairman Rick Gallot says anyone can still put their opinions on the record. The plans that were presented so far, do protect the Lake Charles area from being drawn into a district with Shreveport. But of course, all of this is still in draft form. There is still much work to be done as the first full day of the session gets underway Monday. What would you like to see happen with the re-districting plan as lawmakers convene in the special session?
I came to see what D A Gardener for Mayor has to say about redistricting. No comment; that's a leader!
I guess any good politicians knows to avoid very important issues when running for office.

I personnally don't care to be redistricted with Shreveport.

A district in Shreveport/Leesville, one in Monroe/Alexandria, one in Lake Charles, one in Lafayette, One in Baton Rouge and One in New Orleans. These areas are population areas , where New Orleans is alone in most of their thinking (usually weird), leaving BR, Lafayette, and LC as common ground southern states with three representative districts for the South. these regions needs representation when considering the population and importance of economic and population development for the state. Shreveport thru Leesville is the other district. Alexandria and all points East and North around Monroe is the last of the six reps.

The South is still under the " Reconstruction Act of 1867" Lock this up , makes me sick when I think that we have to have permission to re-district from the PINO and his BOYZ

By bundling us w/another district we'll save monies that otherwise would go to yet more politicians....it is par for the course that LC loses out....thanks to the City's lack of vision....
Support the Hurricane Museum Project....neither the City nor the Council have anything to do with it...therefore it will succeed!!Let it happen !!!!

Make each district as geometrically compact as possible without regard to demographics. Anything else is pure gerrymandering, especially that district around New Orleans.
But without gerrymandering, then Louisiana would lose its very important seat on the CBC, and all the access to good governance that goes with it.

Retired Old Man-- Sorry I disappointed you in not logging in so early, but I had a rough night those, McNeese Cowgirls sure know how to show a man a great time.
Brian--This is why I have to answer you now, because @11PM I am out having fun not sitting at home trying to understand something. What I mean is what I said, if the Cypress Group uses the HUD220 they will have to dedicate a portion of the housing to low income, go to the website and read a little longer you can do it I know you can.
Now back to the whole redistricting, you knew we would get lumped in with Shreveport, heck I think in the end we will also get Baton Rouge. Why because that's where the majority of gambling is...It is all about two things my friends MONEY and POWER.
I am a poor man who believes in his fellow man, which is why I would make a great Mayor. I do not care about money or power.

It would be realy great if they would draw the districts based on actual popultion rather than skewing the whole mess to make sure that the minorities get everything they want at the expense of what is actually fair

@ DaGardner
I live on a dead end street, Dewey St, In a dead end town. I feel you have my best interest in mind. You got my vote. Do you have a web site?

The minorities will have a say in this more than you think, they have a say in everything that they can cause an uproar in and blame it on it all being racial. Draw the lines where they are supposed to be drawn and quit running scared of the minorities in this state and country. Were all the same except when it comes to getting what they want. Just like this new charter school, minorities can't make the scores in the current schools, so lets make one so they can. Pathetic.

Read " The Reconstruction Act of 1867 " it will make your BLOOD BOIL - YES it was in favor of the EX Slaves to punish the Confederate States and Louisiana is one of them , the Act is in FORCE today , MINORITIES rule as far as the FEDERAL Traitors are concerned , 144 years later , enough is enough !

Do any of you really believe that the elected politicians that represent us now have the best intrest of us,the voters at heart.C'mon, they just want to keep their position they have and not have to run against someone from a more populated area. All this baloney about keeping coastal parishes together is just that...baloney,its about keeping their positions.

Time and time again I say this, why do we have to think in terms of color. We are all the same, the only difference between us all is our pocket books. This is why I say it is time for the current leaders to be voted out. No one cares about us poor people, well except for the rich, and their only concern is we stay poor. Lets face it until you abolish welfare, food stamps, low income housing, WIC, social security for the disabled only, we will always have those with out being provided for bu those with.
Now you see why I do what I do. If you can not fight the system join it.
BUCK---Sorry to poor to afford one of those fancy websites...
