It's always been the big question hanging over Southwest Louisiana casinos... What if Texas allowed casino gambling? The issue is coming up again. Texans could get to vote on a constitutional amendment to allow gambling. Proponents are pushing for it as a way to deal with the state's 23 billion dollar budget shortfall. So the Texas Gaming Association is backing a measure that would license eight casinos and slot machines at eight racetracks. Other measures would allow gambling on indian reservations or slot machines at bingo halls. The Texas House Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee heard testimony Tuesday to get a better idea of the proposed bill. There have been several efforts in the past to bring casino gambling to Texas. But so far, all have failed. With Texas facing a 23 billion dollar budget deficit, do you feel it's more likely this time around, that its legislature may approve these gambling proposals?
it would be nice if texas was able to get casino's...it would take the texas trash and idiots out of here..
GO TEXAS GO...WE SUPPORT YOU

Well it would be great for Texas and bad for Louisiana. When the so called Texas trash GO TEX is talking about stop coming here to gamble it will also cause layoffs at casinos, resturants,
motels. Then we can raise our taxes to make up for thr down fall of tax money we need . I would love to see all the motels charging thier outragous prices be stuck with empty rooms and close.

If Texas legalizes gambling, the casinos will dry up here.
We'll then all be proud when people drive a hundred and fifty miles from Houston to view Mayor Randy's Palm Trees and the cultural experience gained by walking around downtown.

Not going to happen, the deep pockets of Mojito Pointe will keep the Texas politicians very rich, so this may see the ballot but it will never win.
After Lent I will be taking applications for the Gardner Girls....

I think eventually Texas will legalize gambling and build their casinos. Why do they want to build yet another casino in Lake Charles. Why dont we have something like a zoo or a moody gardens a water park or an i-max theater something we can do with our children and grandchildren. No we drive to other parishes and other states to do things with our family. You can only look at the promonade so many times with the palm trees.

Frustrated Tax Payer has a good point. I have voiced my opinion in previous blogs on this question that Texas will eventually legalize casino gambling. When it does, it will stop 90% of the gamblers from crossing the border to play in Louisiana. With Texas dealing with a 23 billion shortfall, it's more likely that casino gambling will pass but I still don't think it will make it this time around. But...there's always next time. If casino gambling is passed in Texas, there will be a huge sucking sound when tax revenues, discretionary spending and related jobs all head for Texas.

I said from the beginning, when loseana legalized it, they should have let all the casinos build big huge resorts on DRYLAND. instead they made them build on floating barges . Well, when Texas legalizes it, watch how long it takes these people to pull anchor and sail into the sunset. Again, the last one out of lake chunk turn off the lights .
Hey, wait. We would then have a new tourist attraction. The ghost town once known as lake chuck.

Has anyone out here ever been to Disneyland? we could build the jungle book cruise in the lake. or we could have paddle wheel boats with ladies of the evening on them. offer midnight cruise. Just do not look at the romantic glow from the plants.
what if we had submarine races??
or we could start our own speedboat race's in WA. the have sea-fair days. As a community, we could come up with stuff that we can initiate for a very low cost start up

open your ears Lake Chuck, cuz that "Hoover" sound will one day be Texas sucking in all the "gamers" from our neck of the woods. Galveston, Texas....the soon-to-be "Vegas of the South"....

Galveston, would certainly give Biloxi a run for the money.
we would have to change our name to be "The City That Was Formerly Lake Chuck-Chuck.

If and when the Casinos leave Lake Charles will die like it almost did Pre Casinos. If a person can not see the economical boost the Casinos have brought to the Lake area then their IQ is counted on one hand.

Interestingly enough , the City, its Mayor, the Lake Charles Tourist Bureau ,the Chamber of Commerce, the Churches and all the "good"people fought tooth& nails not to allow Casinos in Lake Charles...
Then the coffers got full and the City is rated A+ and the Mayor and all the above people fight tooth&nails to make sure we keep casinos in Lake Charles....
It will be interesting to see once Texas vote what will be the new gameplan....
