Today marks the one year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion. The accident, which claimed 11 lives, would trigger the worst oil spill disaster in the nation's history. Even though a lot has been done to restore the Gulf Coast, many residents and fishermen who depend on these waters say problems remain. Looking back, do you feel enough has been done to save Louisiana's coastline since the disaster? Are you satisfied with Gulf Coast restoration efforts?
If the oil is still there, not enough has been done, which is the case. There should be a lot more done to promote Louisiana Fishing industry and products which are safe to harvest and eat.
There should be a lot more done to prevent erosion of the coast line in Louisiana that is costing us millions if not billions in future revenues. The government is spending revenue on many of the wrong things that do not produce the benefits promised, and if anything, our government is a big ball and chain around the neck of Louisiana off shore operations, but when did this administration do what they said they would do so why be surprised.

I don't think anyone can really say they are satiisfied with the gulf oil disaster clean up. The damage to the Gulf was so vast that it is impossible to clean it all up. I am still apprehensive about the sea food we get from the Gulf of Mexico today.

The fact is it will be years before Gulf seafood regains it's place on the table of America. B P will do only what they are force to do by public demand. It's really a shame that The Wheel that squeeze gets the Grease.

This hot topic blog is for your input on the subject at hand not for name calling and insulting others that make a reasonable comment. As any major disaster it takes years to recover from it and BP should held responsible for cleanup for as long as it takes to clean it up.

In 10 or 12 year we will know just had bad it was. Right now it seems that enough has been done. they still have not done enough about the Exxon Valdez

Oh really? Seems like every hot topic blog is aimed at bashing politicians and spreading rhetoric.

I agree with Fustrated. i think most of these demented posts or by the same sick, sarcastic, twisted mean individual. Just changing His name each post. The seafood industry is still hurting. People who make their living from the waters of the gulf are still not getting back to their same level lifestyle before the oil spill. BP needs to do more. Not us tax payers.

Sure... Plenty has been done. It don't affect me 1 way the other. I don't worry about gulf seafood. Its way to expensive. Chinese seafood much more affordable, just don't worry about what's in it or where it is grown. Sorry about the fisherman out of work, but hey , about 17 percent of the people of this country are out of work, regardless of what our pitiful excuse for a president says. Besides, I don't blame bp for not ponying up more money than is necessary after that report a week ago about how local governments are misusing theoneu they are getting.

Maybe it should not take such a long time for BP to compensate legitimate claims but just how many false claims by undeserving individules have been submitted.I would want to know that any false claims were recognized and rejected instead of paid out so that the ones that have a legitimate claim get everthing they are intitled to for their losses.Maybe BP should hire more staff to review claims so the process would move more quickly.

They need to get rid of Fineberg,(the guy who is giving out the claim money) his firm is getting over a million a month for paying out money for claims, and he is dragging the process out as long as he can.I think the gulf is mostly recovered but I don't think the marsh, that was heavily impacted will ever recover,I think it will soon be open water and more of our coastline gone.BP's Profits are soaring again and they have the largest amount of gulf leases than any other company, thats such a comforting thought.

The way people are hollering money, money, money, at BP, it reminds me of everyone hOllering the same thing at FEMA after Katrina and Rita. The people of Loseiana sure love for a disaster to come. I guess that's how the bills get paid here.

My dear MR.Lucy Ferr I dont recall having mentioned THE President in this blog. You are correct in the fact that everyone has the right to express their opinion. But you should be ashamed for making fun of other people and making the childess remarks that you make on this blog.I have never said wheather I am a D or R or who I have or have not voted for. With that being said Mr.Ferr please enjoy your tea and learn to be a little kinder to your fellow americans.

The fact is, the gulf is alot better off that Alaska ever was with the Exxon Valdez spill, but that is only because of the microbes that break down oil. Other than that, we honestly will not be able to tell what the true impact is for years. Sure, we are starting to see some of the impacts, but Bottom-Up ecosystem interactions like those in the gulf take time to show the effects of something like the oil spill. I don't care what scientists are saying right now, the gulf may appear to be at almost pre-spill health levels, but they are only saying that to help the region.
Not to say that is a bad thing, because the region needs the attention to get back on its feet, but lieing about the gulf's health is not the right way to go about it.

Curly,
It's true. You shouldn't be alarmed. You should be alarmed at the fact that no one is responsible to go back and "permanently abandon" the wells that need it. It will be left to the tax payers when the time comes.

"Looking back, do you feel enough has been done to save Louisiana's coastline since the disaster? Are you satisfied with Gulf Coast restoration efforts?"
Does it really matter how I feel about it?????
What difference does it make if I am satisfied,or not satisfied, with Gulf Coast restoration efforts?????!!!!
