Reynaud Middle School stays open for now... but its future remains uncertain. That as the Calcasieu School Board last night determined that it's out of the board's hands at this point to close the school. That's because of an agreement that was made with the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education several years ago to give Reynaud Middle School a chance to make improvements. The School Board is going back to BESE now with reasons why it wants to shut the school down. So right now, the ball is in BESE's court, as to what happens to Reynaud. The board voted 8 to 7 to submit a plan to BESE and The Recovery School District to close Reynaud Middle School. The board will also submit the plan to the federal court to get an opinion on the legalities of the move. What is your reaction to the Calcasieu School Board's decision to pass this on to BESE?
why send them to school anyways,,,THEY STILL TALK LIKE..DIS AND DAT..IS YOU HERE..NO SPEAK ENGLISH..
HISTORY IS CRAP IN OUR SCHOOLS NOW.
IT'S BETTER TO HOMESCHOOL YOUR CHILD NOW.
12 YEARS OF SCHOOL AND NONE CAN TALK REAL ENGLISH. CAN'T READ, WRITE, OR HELL,,,WALK DOWN A CROSS WALK..
this town is a joke....

I would assume that we are talking about economic issues now, and not the many other issues that could be brought up. Economically, the school system should be reviewed parish wide and schools that do not provide the cost/benefit ratio needed should be eliminated, and monies focused on making the best of the remaining schools. Put the properties up for sale where many may quickly become private, or another industry. Why sit around and argue about the issue any more. Also, the efficient operation of schools should also include the RIF of all unnecessary management loaded up in Baton Rouge that can be a large cost reduction item too. There is too much politics involved in the school system to make it productive in my opinion, just like most other large public systems that are without good management, the corruption and mismanagement of money and facilities creeps in and children suffer as the result.

I'm all for saving my tax dokkars any way possible. Also, you contact Jeff Davis School Board and ask why Fenton still has open school when there are only 4 and 5 students in a class room.

If the student ratio is currently 6:1 then the students need to moved to another school where the ratio is on level with other schools in the area. The excess money being spent to keep the school open for so few students can be utilized for the schools taking the new student load.
It's sad to say that economics come into play at this time when budget cuts are slashing services to the ones that need them most, social services.

I am certain BESE is glad that they will have the opportunity to do the job of the local board...We don't want BESE interfering, but yet we dump this in their laps...Close it and if BESE doesn't like it and it is in their power to enforce their will locally, then they will let us know. Of course why should I be surprised by this action...This is a board that can't seem to make tough fiscally responsible decisions, but can cut teachers. Can't seem to cut administrative interns, but can cut teachers. Can't seem to address multiple asst principals at schools that barely justify having one assistant, but can cut teachers...A board that is going to address retire/rehire, but hires a new coach in DeQuincy that is a retire/rehire when there were numerous certified applicants, but can cut teachers...Not very fiscally responsible

Scott-
You're wrong. What needs to be done is to assign schools within the neighborhood of the student. We pay buckets of money to bus students from North Lake Charles to go to Barbe and SJ Welsh while schools in NLC are almost empty.
Posted by: Elohssa | May 11, 2011 at 07:18 AM
Quit busing the kids from Reynaud to SJ Welsh.

To SHUT THEM ALL DOWN NOW,
Apparently your superior education did not teach you the merits of punctuation or proper sentence structure. I do, however, have a suggestion for you: LEAVE! GO AWAY! GET OUT! If this town is a joke then YOU are the punch line! And those are some pretty chicken$#$# comments about the girl getting hit on McNeese Street. Enough already.

We could never afford to pay for schools with 5 and 6 to 1 ratio. We use to have exactly what you are asking for. Then NLC parents started complaining that my childs school is not as good and the academic rate was much lower than the SLC schools. I think if the school is failing to meet standards close it. If they are succeeding make the kids move back to thier area. What gets me is white kids never get a choice to pick a school. They have to go by district where they live. Kinda like Obama who had two years with control of both houses now talks imigration reform. He no more cares about that than the man in the moon. It's all about votes just like keeping a failing school open in democrat areas . Someone needs to ask him when he lies about oil production how much oil we produced in the 70's we are only about half of that. Google it dont believe these idiots running our country. Some people follow like sheep.

I think the big picture is being missed here: A few weeks ago the CSB decided they need to close Reynaud Middle, NOW they find out it is not in their power to make this decision. Has anyone on the CSB ever heard of doing their HOMEWORK (no pun intended) why did they not do this research first, before stirring up an entire community???
Also I still say if you release a teach then 3 administration personal get released as well.
Next Item the SEED bldg. how much did this Little gem cost us? Why could the not simply rent an existing bldg then sub lease the office space to the "incubators"
And how come the Police jury can freely spend their money, WHERE does it come from???? Will someone tell ME/US...

Busing has ruined Barbe educationally.
The wonderful Barbe teachers hardly have time to teach because the classes have become so unruly. Their jobs are more likened to referees than teachers.
We should all be ashamed of what we have done to our wonderful teachers. We know what is going on, and we do nothing.

Gump- Without busing how would some students ever get introduced to rap music....
Posted by: DA. GARDNER FOR MAYOR | May 11, 2011 at 10:15 AM
WHY DO PARENTS IN NORTH LAKE CHARLES FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE TO SEND THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOLS LIKE BARBE ETC. TO GET A DECENT EDUCATION......ONLY THING HAPPENING HERE IS BARBE GETS DRAGGED DOWN TO THE LEVEL OF NORTH LAKE CHARLES SCHOOLS !!!!! DUH !!!!
Posted by: ALLEN | May 11, 2011 at 10:28 AM
RAYNAUD SCHOOL CLOSING SIX TO ONE RATIO. HOW RIDICULOUS ...ALL ABOUT APPEASING THE BLACKS IN THIS DOWN RIDDEN COMUNITY !!!!
Posted by: ALLEN | May 11, 2011 at 10:31 AM
Allen- Not true the Barbe kids learn rap music, the best place to get drugs, how to braid hair, a new language, how to live off the government.
All very useful tools in today's society.

We the people are tired of Politics vs Education. The Schools are empty in north Lake Charles I wonder why. Six students to a class room I wonder why. The scores for the schools is not any better than those with 20 or 30 students I wonder why. Maybe we should rent the Movie Blackboard Jungle and we might not wonder why anymore. The CSB has made promises they can no longer keep. We should never forget that we all want our children to do better in life than we did and we should all work to make sure they have that opportunity.

bese will cave in to the demands of the blacks and keep the school open. When will latinos, asians, indians, and whites wise up and band together and stop the dumbing down of our children at the expense of taxpayers simply because it is now politicaly correct to bow down and give in to any and all black demands.

IT's all about Black Stuff Right ? In a few Hundred Years and Trillions of Dollars more being spent , someone will say .............. Maybe we should left them all alone to learn TOGETHER , raising the Standards was the best Idea WAY BACK THEN.
Posted by: Tailspin Harry | May 11, 2011 at 12:51 PM
It truly should not be about race, the children's education and the tax dollars spent wisely is all that matters. And when you find out a 2 weeks later that you do not even have the power to close a school you thought you could, that is not money spent wisely. The CSB needs to focus on cutting themselves first before they cut teachers or schools.
Posted by: DA. GARDNER FOR MAYOR | May 11, 2011 at 01:51 PM
Cut out the Obese School Board just like the Postal Service after LOSING 2.2 BIllion in one quarter ! Replace the School Board w/ a Nutria and sell the Postal Service , minus the Health Care Debt to FedEx and UPS
WOW that's a lot of money saved and Better Management for the Calcasieu Parish Fools Board

Hold on there ALLEN. Let's not be tossing darts at the wrong target.
Busing was Court ordered in 1970 and nobody wanted it, black or white.
I have never heard of even one case where it was successful. All it's ever done is make what used to be "proud communities" angry.

Why send them to school anyways,,,THEY STILL TALK LIKE..DIS AND DAT..IS YOU HERE..Where its at???
12 YEARS OF SCHOOL AND NONE CAN TALK REAL ENGLISH. CAN'T READ, WRITE, OR HELL,,,WALK DOWN A CROSS WALK..
An....das da truff...
Posted by: Moi | May 11, 2011 at 06:47 PM
gump, check the records. Court ordered the busing because of complaints from the local black community backed by the naacp. If the local blacks did not want it then they would have chosen to send their kids to local schools rather than insisting they be bused to Barbe.
In America we are sll supposed to be equal. Unfortunately, no one told the blacks. They don't want everyone equal. They want what they want when they demand it and they want everyone else to pay for it and kiss their feet for the "privelge of paying for it Many in the black community are prejudiced against anyone who is not black.
Posted by: Brancie | May 11, 2011 at 07:10 PM
why would any of the white kids want to be bussed to NLC? And why is there always 3 or 4 sherrifs dept vehicles parked at Lagrange?
Posted by: hahaha | May 11, 2011 at 07:48 PM
Brancie,
That is incorrect.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desegregation_busing_in_the_United_States
Let's not get "Desegregation" confused with "Forced Busing".
