What a dilemma the state is facing! Open the Morganza Spillway and risk flooding large parts of south Louisiana, including Morgan City... Or keep it closed, and risk the rising Mississippi River swamping LSU and other infrastructure in South Baton Rouge. There's unofficial word that the Army Corps of Engineers will likely open the Morganza Spillway between Saturday and Tuesday. And if that happens, areas from Pointe Coupee to St. Mary Parish could see up to 25 feet of water. This is a flood that officials say hasn't been seen since the Great Flood of 1925. Landowners and farmers in Morgan City are busy preparing for the worst. What do you think? Should the Morganza Spillway be opened at the expense of those landowners in order to protect Baton Rouge?
is this our town's problem? if not,,let them deal with it

If you pay Taxes, it IS your problem, We are all in this together, one way or the other. If it is LSU, or Morgan City. The best minds should look , Quickly, at all the what if's and how long's and do what has to be done.Just hope the La. Legislature is kept out of it.

The marsh in and around Morgan City and the lower state near the river is a large basin for draining excess flow of the river. Problem is it is now full of people. It is a decision that those affected and the Corp of Engineers should make to minimize the damage to people and property. Good luck to them. Fortunately it is not our problem in this part of the state so our input will not likely count for much.

The Army corp of engineers has not ever impressed me I (Just look at thier track record ). Im not the sharpest knife in the drawer but it seems to me this should have been open a week ago. Why wait until the big surge is here. Release it slowly before it gets so high. Sounds like a lot better idea to me. We all know the levees we have paid dearly for are iffy at best.

Kyle- You are so correct, why do they wait until the last minute to release the flood waters, we should have slowly started this process over a week ago.
KPLC why must you dictate when the 1st amendment is used, if something is posted on your blog it should stay there unless it is profanity or a threat to someone.
Other then that YOU are being hypocrites by removing what WE have to say.
I STILL SAY THAT KPLC'S KRYSTAL PRICE AND ELIZABETH TEMPLE WOULD MAKE EXCELLENT GARDNER GIRLS.

The Morganza and Bonne Carre spillways are there for exactly this condition. People who built in the river bottoms for the spillways KNEW exactly what the situation was when they built.
So what do we do, then, NOT open the spillways, and risk overtopping levees at Baton Rouge or New Orleans, and flooding out those cities and industries, or dump the water down the spillway just as they were built for...
No-brainer.

Maybe it will flood LSU so bad it will be closed, then we could really save some money!
LSU stinks!

Grow up! These are peoples homes and lives. I tend to side with those saying that people in the basin knew what they signed up for when they moved there. Either way its just a horrible situation for everyone over there. And with the Army Corps of Engineers involved, the residents need all the prayers that we can offer.

Lequisha, I know you are being facetious!

Well of course they must!!!! After all...all farmers do is provide the availability of food for those whom will not be flooded!!!!
Makes sense....flood out the people growing food for those whom will not be flooded!!!! People not being flooded will starve!!!
Only governments reason this way!!!
