High School Soccer Playoffs

The St. Louis boys and girls soccer teams were impressive in their playoff openers . The Saints boys, top seeds in Division 2, shutout Loyola Prep 4-0 at the McNeese State Women's Soccer complex Tuesday night. The Saints girls, 3 seeds in Division 2, were even more impressive in shutting out Ruston 5-0 at the McNeese State Women's Soccer Compex Tuesday night.

The Barbe boys had a season of re-birth ended at home with a 6-2 loss to St. Paul's. Still the Bucs had one of their finest seasons to date. Congratulations to all three Lake Charles teams for representing the area on the soccer pitch well this season

McNeese men's basketball back alone in first place

Thanks to back-to-back wins over Nicholls State and Central Arkansas, the McNeese State men's basketball team is back alone in first place in the Southland Conference Eastern Division.

However, that's not the biggest news this week. ESPN's "Bracketology" has the Cowboys slated to be 16th seed in the NCAA Tournament in the New Orleans bracket.

I asked head coach Dave Simmons what that meant to his team. While he wasn't ready to book his airplane tickets. He did believe it's a good thing to promote the progam on a national level. Simmons also believes it gives his players something to buy into and believe in.

The Pokes are in the midst of a six day lay-off before going on the road to play Stephen F. Austin Saturday.
