Hello all. I am one of the newest members to the KPLC family.
I joined the KPLC 7 News team in December of 2007. I am a native of Lake Charles, and have lived here all his life. I've been interested in the weather since a very young age. I have witnessed several significant weather events over the years that solidified my ambition to become a meteorologist. This includes the Ice Storm of 1997 and Hurricane Rita in September 2005. Both of these weather events were unlike any other I've ever seen in my lifetime.
I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor's of Science in Atmospheric Science in December 2007. I am also working on a 2nd degree in Broadcast Journalism from McNeese State University. I will graduate from MSU in May. I attended UL-Monroe from 2003 to 2007. It is the only school in the state that offers a degree in meteorology. I graduated from Barbe High School in 1999. While there, I got experience forecasting the weather my junior and senior year by giving the weekend weather forecast on the morning announcements every Friday. After high school, I interned here at KPLC in the 7 Stormcenter, and did so periodically over the course of 8 years.
While in school at ULM, I was a member of the student chapter of the American Meteorological Society. I participated in the National Collegiate Weather Forecast Contest all 4 years. This is a contest where students of Atmospheric Sciences at school all over the country compete with each other by forecasting for different cities for a 2 week period over the course of the academic year. I won at least one city in each of my 4 years of participation, and never finished worse than 3rd overall in the school. I was top forecaster in the school my senior year at ULM.
I am an only child, and am very thankful to God and to all my family and friends for their the love and support over the years. I couldn't have gotten this far without them.
I currently work part time here at KPLC as a weather producer and news assistant. I hope to one day be a full-time meteorologist with the ultimate goal of becoming the chief meteorologist right here at KPLC. I love the challenge of forecasting the weather, and am very familiar with the ever changing weather here in SW Louisiana. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend, family and friends. I enjoy going to the movies and love all kinds of music. I am also an avid fan of the Houston Astros. Other than weather, the Astros are my biggest passion. Aside from baseball, I also enjoy watching many other sports as well.
I am very happy to be part of the team here at my hometown station.
