Tornado Watch number 61 has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma for portions of Southwest Louisiana. The watch is for Vernon, Rapides, & Avoyelles Parishes; as well for Jasper, Newton, & Tyler Counties in Southeast Texas. The watch is in effect until 4:00 am Wednesday morning.

A strong line of thunderstorms is currently located over the northern part of our state and this line will be pushing south into our area later in the early morning hours. Thanks to strong wind shear the potential for tornadoes is strong enough to prompt a Tornado Watch to be issued. Stay alert and keep your NOAA Weather Radio in alert mode and stay tuned to KPLC for the latest information. You can always find the latest radar views on our website,
www.kplctv.com under the weather tab; or on the Southwest Louisiana Channel which can be found on digital channel 7.2 or Suddenlink Cable Channel 247.
The next few days look very active and each day may bring severe weather into Southwest Louisiana starting from now through early Saturday morning. Right now Friday into Friday looks to be the best potential for severe thunderstorms; but Wednesday and Thursday afternoon will have to be watched with the frontal boundary nearby. Spring severe weather season is here so make sure you have a severe weather plan in place.

This is also a great time for me to remind you that next Thursday we will be holding a severe weather training seminar in conjunction with the National Weather Service. It will be at the Lake Charles Civic Center at 7 pm on April 2, 2009; come out and meet the entire 7 Stormteam and helps us track severe weather.
WOW! I have got to attend this seminar...I am a severe weather nut and would love to learn more about it! Some day I would like to go storm chasing..:) You guys are GREAT !!!!
