The tropical wave in the central Atlantic has become better organized overnight and could become the next tropical depression or storm over the next day. The system is moving west-northwest and computer models put the storm just north of Puerto Rico later this week. When this storm becomes tropical the we will have a better idea as to where it will go. Right now it is still well out in the Atlantic and no immediate threat.
We will continue to watch this closely.

As we move into the busiest month on average for hurricane season, we're watching an area of showers and storms in the southern Atlantic about 800 miles east of the Antilles. This broad area of showers and storms are showing signs of very slow organization; however, the storm activity has been pulsating in intensity over the past few days. Atmospheric conditions are favorable for this system to slowly develop over the next day or so into the next tropical depression. We will monitor this area for you over the days to come along with the rest of the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. Now is a good to time review those hurricane plans and make sure all your information and supplies are up to date, so if something were to form, you are ready to implement your hurricane action plan. Stay safe, and enjoy the tranquil weather in the days to come across SWLA and Acadiana.

Strong thunderstorms continue to push east through Calcasieu & Cameron parishes at about 10mph. These storms will move into Jeff Davis and Vermilion Parishes over the next forty-five minutes. The storms are producing frequent cloud to ground lightning, which is very dangerous. Avoid doors, windows, head indoors if you hear thunder, and avoid using electronics or anything with plumbing as lightning can travel along these paths and electrocute you. Also, the storms are moving slow and dumping high amount of rain, at nearly 3" or more in spots. This will cause flooding to low lying and poor drainage areas. LAKE CHARLES AND MOSS BLUFF BY 645 PM CDT...
FREQUENT TO EXCESSIVE CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING...WIND GUSTS TO 40
MPH...AND SHORT LIVED FUNNEL CLOUDS ARE LIKELY WITH THIS STORM. ALSO

Danny has been absorbed by the upper levelflow as he continues to dump rain along the Maine coast. Otherwise an area of disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave in the Atlantic is chugging westward. This area may form into a tropical system in the days to come, but is expected to take some time to develop if it does at all. We're coming up on the busiest time of the hurricane season on average so be sure to have your plans ready in the event of a tropical system. Tropical Storm DANNY(31.4N 74.9W 40mph winds moving NNE at 10mph)
Danny's future as a tropical system is in question over the next twelve to twenty-four hours. He had been very disorganized over thew past several days, and he is now about to move into the worst atmospheric conditions he's seen in his lifespan, so it's doubtful he'll remain organized much longer. Regardless, Danny will be a wave action threat for the coastal areas of North Carolina and the east coast of the US this weekend. Danny will pick up forward speed, forecast to move north then northeastward, being picked up by the flow aloft. Danny will be not much more than a memory in the next forty-eight hours.
We'll still watch the wave in the open Atlantic that has the potential to develop over the weekend. Some models dissipate the wave while others slowly try to develop it. We'll monitor it for you in the days to come, along with the rest of the tropics.

Tropical Storm DANNY(30.4N 75.4W 40mph winds moving N at 5mph)
Danny continues to look relatively unimpressive as he sits in the western Atlantic off the coast of eastern Florida. Danny was nearly stationary earlier today, but he's showing signs of forward motion as of the PM update. Danny may strengthen briefly in the near term, but he's not anticipated to reach hurricane strength. As time progresses and he moves northward, he'll move into poor conditions for any further strenghteningand is actually anticipated to deteriorate at he races northward this weekend. Danny will primarily be a wave maker and rainmaker off the coast of North Carolina and clipping Massachusetts late tomorrow night. He'll take a similar track to Hurricane Bill.
Otherwise, we're also watch a wave that recently rolled of the African Coast yesterday. The conditions ahead of this wave over the next day or so are looking increasingly favorable for slow development. this wave warrants close monitoring as we move into the month of september, typically the most active month in the Atlantic hurricane season.

Tropical Storm Danny is barely hanging on to tropical storm status. Weak and moving toward the eastern seaboard, Danny's threats appear fairly minimal with no more than waves and rip currents along the eastern seaboard. The forecast track still takes the storm parallel to the coastline over the weekend. Danny will weaken even more as it heads north.
Another focus in the tropics is an area of showers and storms in the eastern Atlantic. This wave appears to be organizing a bit more and does have a chance of becoming a depression over the next few days. We will be watching it this weekend but any threats to land are a long way off.
